Creating Opportunities for Children and Giving Back to Our Community
We have always believed that being part of a community means more than simply doing business there. It means supporting local people, helping worthwhile causes and contributing to projects that make a genuine difference.
That is why we have been incredibly proud to support Wigmore Primary School in Luton over the past few years. From helping create a wonderful outdoor wildlife area to sponsoring an inspiring fundraising challenge, it has been a privilege to play a small part in projects that will benefit local children for years to come.
Helping Children Discover the Natural World
One of the first initiatives we were delighted to support was the creation of a wildlife pond within the school grounds.
For many children, opportunities to get close to nature are becoming increasingly rare, particularly in urban areas. The pond has given pupils a chance to experience freshwater wildlife first-hand, observe how ecosystems work and develop a greater appreciation for the environment around them.
Today, the pond has become a thriving feature of the school. The plants have settled in beautifully, wildlife is beginning to flourish and the area now provides an engaging outdoor space where children can learn, explore and satisfy their natural curiosity.
Knowing that future generations of pupils will continue to benefit from this space makes the project especially rewarding for everyone involved.
Walking Together for a Great Cause
This year, we were also honoured to support Wigmore Primary School’s remarkable “Wembley to Wigmore” charity walk.
Staff, parents and supporters took on the incredible challenge of walking 28 miles from Wembley Stadium all the way back to the school in Luton, raising money to improve facilities for pupils.
The determination, commitment and community spirit shown throughout the event was truly inspiring. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together with a shared goal of creating something special for the children at the school.
The challenge captured attention far beyond the local community and even received coverage from the BBC, shining a spotlight on the fantastic efforts of everyone who took part.
An Amazing Achievement
Thanks to the hard work of the walkers, the generosity of sponsors and the support of the wider community, the fundraiser achieved something extraordinary.
Together, the event raised an incredible £20,358, significantly exceeding its original target.
The funds will now be used to transform the school’s playgrounds with new markings and activity trails, permanent football and basketball goals, and a range of educational play equipment designed to encourage creativity, physical activity and social interaction.
Most importantly, these improvements will help create a happier, more engaging environment where children can play, learn and build friendships. They will also help strengthen the school’s role as a valuable hub for the local community.
A Thank You That Means So Much
Following the success of the fundraising campaign, we were deeply touched to receive a heartfelt letter of thanks from Wigmore Primary School.
The school shared how the funds raised will directly improve the experiences of pupils for many years to come and explained that a permanent plaque will be installed on the school grounds in recognition of the support provided by sponsors.
It is a gesture that means a great deal to everyone here at Goss Environmental Coatings. While we never support community projects for recognition, it is incredibly rewarding to know that our contribution has helped make a lasting difference.
We are also looking forward to visiting the school once the new playground facilities have been completed and seeing first-hand the positive impact they are having on the children who use them every day.
