New, ‘State of the Art’ Biomedical Facility – Hygienic Cladding, Coatings and Wall Protection

Goss Environmental Coatings Limited were selected to supply and install a range of wall protection and hygienic wall cladding for this large scale, prestigious new building. We were to be involved with the team to deliver the new, ‘state of the art’ biomedical facility for the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS).  

The 12,000m² 9 storey facility consisted of a wide range of research laboratories, imaging areas and included Containment Level 2 (CL2) laboratories. Therefore, the wall protection, hygienic cladding and hygienic wall coatings needed to be carefully considered. This ensured the quality of the specialist finishes would meet the exacting requirements.  

We joined the team brought together by the renowned and highly regarded construction company Walter Lilly, who had been commissioned to deliver this major new landmark building. 

The MRC LMS team have won the Integration and Collaborative Working category in the 2023 Construction Excellence SECBE Awards. This is a fantastic result for Walter Lilly and everyone else involved in the contract. 

The Solution

Having carried out multiple in-depth discussions with all the stakeholders on this project, it was decided that a range of hygienic wall cladding, wall protection and hygienic coatings would be used, including:

• Sika AL11 system to the walls
• Sika AL12 system to the ceilings
• Trovex Diamond White hygienic cladding to the walls
• Acrovyn wall protection, including crash rails and corner guards.

Working closely with all trades on site was a vital element to ensuring the project was delivered smoothly and on time. Once all the surfaces were primed and ready for installation, our expert installation team got to work. 

The complexities of the project meant that our team were required to navigate a range of different shapes and corners of the walls and doorways. The installation team precisely shaped each sheet to ensure the hygienic cladding was installed perfectly, along with the wall protection systems and installation of wall coatings at this prestigious London address.
