Hygienic wall cladding and coatings offer an essential solution for veterinary practices. The cladding and coatings provide both functional and aesthetic benefits that also support a sterile environment.
In veterinary practices, maintaining a high level of cleanliness and sanitation is paramount. This is particularly true in spaces such as waiting rooms, consultation rooms, treatment rooms, and surgical theatres, where the risk of infection and contamination is a constant concern.
Hygienic wall cladding and coatings are specifically designed to meet the rigorous demands of medical environments. Their smooth, seamless surfaces prevent the accumulation of dirt, dust, and pathogens, making them much easier to clean and disinfect compared to traditional wall finishes.
Additionally, these materials are resistant to chemicals and impact, ensuring they can withstand the regular cleaning protocols and potential wear and tear common in veterinary settings.
Benefits of Hygienic Wall Cladding and Coatings within a Veterinary Environment
The benefits of installing hygienic wall cladding, wall protection and coatings in veterinary practices are multifaceted.
Hygienic surfaces significantly reduce the risk of infection by creating an environment that is inhospitable to bacteria and viruses. This is crucial in areas like surgical theatres and treatment rooms, that require the highest standards of cleanliness to prevent postoperative infections, ensuring the health and recovery of all their animal patients.
In waiting and consultation rooms, hygienic wall cladding contributes to a professional and reassuring atmosphere. Pet owners are likely to feel more confident in a veterinary practice that visibly prioritises hygiene and cleanliness.
This can improve client satisfaction and loyalty, which are critical for the success of any veterinary business. Moreover, the durability and low-maintenance nature of these materials translate into cost savings over time, providing significant economic and lifecycle cost benefits to owners and organisations.
Hygienic wall cladding and coatings do not require frequent repairs or replacements, and their ease of cleaning reduces labour and material costs associated with maintaining the highest sanitary conditions.
Addressing the needs of Veterinary Practices
The specific needs of veterinary practices dictate the choice and implementation of hygienic wall solutions. In waiting rooms, where pets and owners spend considerable time, wall cladding and wall protection materials need to be robust enough to withstand scratches and knocks while being easy to clean in case of accidents.
In consultation rooms, the focus is on creating a sterile yet welcoming environment. Hygienic wall cladding systems that resist staining and can be quickly sanitised are ideal in these spaces.
Treatment rooms and surgical theatres demand the highest level of hygiene. Here, the wall cladding and coatings must meet stringent health and safety standards, providing a seamless, impervious barrier against pathogens. These materials must also be able to withstand frequent exposure to disinfectants and other cleaning agents without degrading. Thermoforming and welding methods can be used to create seamless and jointless surfaces.
Implementing hygienic wall cladding and coatings across all areas of a veterinary practice also helps to standardise the cleaning and maintenance protocols. This consistency ensures that all staff members can efficiently and effectively uphold the practice’s hygiene standards, reducing the risk of cross-contamination between different areas. Clean and efficient working environments can contribute to clean and efficient working attitudes.

Project Focus – Photon House Veterinary Facility, Cambridge
Completed for Re-Gen (UK) Construction Ltd, a major specialist contractor in the South East, this project involved a complex hygienic cladding installation. The project entailed installing 330 sheets of Altro Whiterock Vantage hygienic cladding. Most joints were hot welded, with corners thermoformed and two-part transition trims installed to the floor. The installation spanned over 25 rooms, including consultation rooms, treatment rooms, and operating theatre areas. The project required significant attention to detail, especially for the intricate boxing-in elements. As always, we collaborated with various other trades to deliver the hygienic cladding installation to a high standard, on time, on budget and safely.
