Hygienic Wall Cladding for KarlStorz Training Centre

This complex and highly technical hygienic wall cladding project was specified as part of the development of a new training and technology centre for the renowned medical instrument specialists, Karl Storz.

Crown Interiors were chosen by Karl Storz to build the new training centre and to blend a comfortable and welcoming visitor environment with a fully functional Anaesthetic and Operating Theatre facility.

The centre was to be the only showroom of its type in the UK, and Goss were chosen, as a recommended Altro contractor and proven installer on Storz projects, to provide a high, clinical grade, quality installation of hygienic wall cladding – using Altro Whiterock and Altro Digiclad.

In addition to the project complexities, the work needed to be completed during the winter of 2020 under the COVID pandemic lockdown restrictions and all the complications that ensued.

The Solution

The client required the work to be fast tracked in order to meet their challenging timescale. To help achieve this, a focused and dedicated team was formed by Goss to make sure the hygienic wall cladding fabric installation was installed on time and to the highest standards.

Altro Whiterock Hygienic Cladding

The Client Design team specified the supply and installation of the Altro Whiterock White panels for the Operation and Anaesthetic room walls. These panels provided the robust and hygienic solution needed for their state-of-the-art training showroom and are utilised widely in operating theatre, clinical and medical environments. All joints were welded for the highest clinical grade finish.

Altro Digiclad Hygienic Cladding

Further, the client required a bespoke digital print for one of the walls to create a more relaxing and calming environment. For this, Altro Digiclad panels were produced by Altro, to specific dimensions, utilising a high-resolution bespoke image and installed by Goss to a feature wall.

The Altro Digiclad system was jointed using a specialist graphic connection strip between each panel to ensure there was no break in the image itself, eliminating the need for any grouting or siliconing, maintaining the highest levels of hygiene across the wall surface.

Once installed, the hygienic wall cladding protective film was left in place and only removed once the final build clean had been carried out, as part of the big reveal.

The Altro Whiterock White wall cladding provided the tough, hygienic, cleanable, grout free and impact resistant surface required for the Operation and Anaesthetic showroom facility. The Altro Digiclad image added colour and energy to the environment.

The installation of the Altro Whiterock White hygienic wall cladding in such facilities improves lifecycle cost, as surfaces are robust, easily cleaned and maintained. Altro Whiterock is supplied and installed by a network of approved Altro installers, such as Goss Environmental Coatings.
