Wall protection for schools

Wall protection for schools

September 20, 2023

Wall protection systems in schools can play an important role in hygiene and protection against bumps and scuffs, especially in high-traffic areas.

Many schools have chosen to install hygienic wall cladding, as instead of painting, as it offers a long-term maintenance benefit. Wall protection systems can improve the look and feel of the areas and provide a positive atmosphere for pupils and teachers alike.

Here are some of the benefits of installing wall protection throughout a school:

  • Low maintenance for the long term
  • Hygienic and visually appealing cladding that is easy to clean
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Wall protection can match the interior wall and school colours
  • Quick and easy to install, so it can be scheduled for school holidays

Here are some of the most popular areas in a school for the installation of wall protection:

Hygienic wall cladding for school toilets

Hygiene is of paramount importance in school toilets. The irregular shapes of these rooms can make it difficult to keep corners and wall joints clean. Hygienic wall cladding provides a hard-wearing and robust surface that is easy to keep clean. Wall protection can withstand the regular use of cleaning agents that can often degrade a typical painted surface over time.

The wall cladding can be installed from floor to ceiling or to a specific height, leaving space for other wall fittings. It is available in a range of colours and finishes to match the décor of the toilets.

Hygienic cladding for changing rooms

Wall protection cladding is often used as an alternative to tiling. This is especially the case in changing rooms and school shower facilities. Installation of wall hygienic cladding offers a much quicker installation time, helping to reduce the impact on the school’s timetables.

The wall protection is hardwearing and fully water-resistant. Importantly, the cladding cannot crack, craze, or fall off, as is sometimes the case with tiling. This means the cladding can help protect against leaks or seepage into the walls, which can lead to an expensive repair bill.

Wall protection for school canteens

School canteens are an important facility for all schools. They must maintain a high level of hygiene at all times, but they should also create an environment where both teachers and pupils can relax while eating.

Hygienic wall protection installed throughout the canteen area can provide both the clean environment and relaxing atmosphere required. Food preparation areas are easily cleaned and maintained, and eating areas will benefit from a range of colours creating the ideal canteen environment.

The wall protection will also protect against scuffs and knocks that can occur from moving chairs and tables, or banging from shoes and bags.

Canteen installations can be installed at a height that provides the protection needed, while also leaving space for notice boards or pictures to be affixed without affecting the wall panels.

Wall protection for school corridors

School corridors are one of the busiest areas of a school. The walls can often suffer from scuffs and bumps that can leave scratches and even knock plaster off the walls. If simply painted, it can be difficult to keep clean and maintain over time.

Wall protection cladding can help to ensure that the corridor walls can be easily maintained in the long term. It can be installed to a height that still allows for important notice boards or children’s artwork to be displayed.

The wall protection panels also offer a great opportunity to match the colour scheme of the school and enhance its “brand”.

Case studies for wall protection

Goss have installed wall protection for many schools over the years, in a variety of areas. Here are some of the projects we have been pleased to work on:

Chatsworth School, Hounslow – Wall Protection

This wall protection installation project was quite a challenge for a few different reasons.

  • Firstly, primary schools tend to have smaller toilet rooms, which made it difficult for us to work in and set up. We had bulky equipment and needed to bring in materials that were 3.0m by 1.22m. The team had to adapt the work process to install the wall protection.
  • Secondly, the contractor was not able to fit all of our work during school holidays. As a result, we had to work around school activities. This posed some challenges, as we had to ensure that we worked safely around the pupils and staff.
  • Finally, the quality of the existing substrate was not the best, so it needed to be smoothed out and cleaned. This was necessary to ensure that the specialist welding of sheets together was possible.

Despite these challenges, our team installed all the wall protection throughout the school’s toilets to the high quality that we always deliver. We are pleased to say that the school was completely satisfied with the finished product.

Enfield School Wall Protection

For this school wall protection project, we did a sample installation at the secondary school when they were just considering protecting certain parts of their circulation areas. They were considering the options to not only protect the walls from the inevitable bumps and scratches, but they also wanted to match the school’s brand colours.

Following the first successful installation, the school then reached out to us again, asking to continue with wall protection in another area of their school.

They considered several colours from the hard samples we sent to them, and finally settled on the rich blue “Pacific” from the Trovex Radiance range.

To help limit the impact on the school’s weekday timetable, the installation was planned for the Easter holidays. Our team worked hard over their break. And, we are pleased to say that the wall protection was successfully installed to our customer’s satisfaction.

Is your school is considering the installation of hygienic wall protection? If so, would like to discuss the options? Then please give us a call. Our team will be able to visit your school and discuss the range of options that are available to you. We look forward to hearing from you.
