Goss regularly undertake Hygienic Cladding installations for universities throughout the UK. We have installed Hygienic Coatings and Cladding for the most prestigious universities UK-wide.
Originally founded in 1916, SOAS University of London is located in Bloomsbury. The University has, over time, grown to be one of the world’s leading institutions for the study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It has also gone on to develop one of the five national research libraries in the UK.
It is always great to be able to work with such prestigious clients.
Hygienic wall cladding for shower rooms
We were approached to help with the University’s upgrade of their postgraduate student residencies located near to Kings Cross. The works required us to supply and install the hygienic wall cladding to 70 showers. All shower cubicles were situated across a total of 7 floors of student accommodation.
As with many other student residential buildings, open space can be in short supply and this project was no different. Critically, works had to be completed in preparation for the start of the 2022-23 academic year at SOAS. Therefore time was very much of the essence, the installation had to be ready for the September 2023 student return.
Here, we found that the main challenge was the splitting of work between the 7 floors. The hygienic cladding team had to set up equipment in one main open plan area. The building layout meant that this location couldn’t be in close proximity to the actual rooms. In fact, on this occasion the most appropriate space was outside the building altogether.
The result of working across the 7 floors and a central preparation area outside meant that the installation team had a significant amount of walking to do. The team certainly exceeded their 10,000 recommended daily steps for healthy living!
Hygienic wall cladding on scale
At an initial glance, this project looked like a very quick turnaround for shower unit hygienic cladding installation, and to some degree it was. As you can see from the image, the shower units are quite small and so relatively straightforward to install. However, when you add in another 69 just like it, across the seven floors, then it does become a project of scale.
The key to completing this kind of project effectively is always careful planning and preparation. Appraising the exact requirements and locations of the installation allowed us to complete the project both on time and to budget.
Following our initial site visit to help us fully understand the detailed requirements, it was decided between all stakeholders that using Trovex Diamond White Hygienic Cladding would deliver the best results. And it truly has!
Minimising silicone use
Shower units need to be watertight and remain watertight. Goss installers measured, thermoformed and hot weld jointed each hygienic cladding sheet. This installation technique provides seamless and watertight surfaces with zero use of silicone on internal shower space joints. This process takes planning, knowledge and skill. Our cladding team are masters of their craft and always work through the installation options to provide the optimum finish.
Upon project completion, we were pleased to hear that the University was very happy with the final finish. We’re looking forward to being able to work with them again on future projects.
